KaShauna G. Spratley is an esteemed leader in education, business, and community engagement. A Newport News, Virginia, native, Spratley has dedicated her career to empowering students, organizations, and entrepreneurs through innovative leadership, strategic development, and a commitment to lifelong learning.
KaShauna's educational journey began at Menchville High School in Newport News, Virginia, and even before graduating, she demonstrated an entrepreneurial spirit by completing the Nail Technology program at Madam Daniels School of Beauty Culture and passing the Virginia Board of Barbering & Cosmetology and became a Licensed Nail Technician at the age of 16. This early exposure to skill development laid the foundation for a lifelong commitment to education and leadership.
KaShauna’s academic journey is a testament to her passion for education and continuous self-improvement. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Urban Studies from Virginia Commonwealth University and a Master of Education in Curriculum & Instruction from Averett University. Pursuing her degree at Averett University allowed her to merge her passion for education with her commitment to developing innovative and inclusive learning experiences. The program strengthened her ability to analyze, design, and implement effective educational strategies, shaping her identity as an educator, mentor, and leader. Furthering her expertise in leadership and administration, KaShauna is currently completing a Master of Arts in Urban Education: Administration & Supervision PreK-12 at Norfolk State University.
Additionally, she expanded her business acumen by earning a Post-Graduate Certificate in Women’s Entrepreneurship from Cornell University in December 2020. This certification reinforced her commitment to servant leadership, particularly in supporting other women in their business and leadership journeys. It has empowered her to approach entrepreneurship with confidence, resilience, and a passion for creating opportunities for others, all while growing Kouture Events & Graphics, LLC into a premier brand.
KaShauna brings a wealth of experience to her previous role as Director of Education at The Barry Robinson Center, where she lead academic programs tailored to support military-connected youth. With a steadfast commitment to student success and institutional advancement, she was promoted into the role of Vice President of Education, where she will further enhance the center’s educational initiatives.
Her career in education spans various leadership roles within Hampton City Schools and Arlington Public Schools, where she served as:
- Special Education Program Advisor, overseeing the implementation of programs that support students with disabilities.
- Graduation Facilitator, ensuring at-risk students received the resources and guidance necessary to achieve academic success.
- Special Education Teacher, designing and delivering individualized instruction to meet the diverse learning needs of students.
- CTE Special Education Resource Teacher, providing instructional support and mentoring fellow educators in developing effective strategies for students with disabilities enrolled in Career & Technical Education (CTE) courses.
Recognized for her excellence in teaching and dedication to student success, KaShauna was honored as the Teacher of the Year for Hampton High School in 2011. This prestigious award reflects her unwavering commitment to academic achievement, student empowerment, and inclusive learning environments. KaShauna's background in special education has profoundly shaped her servant leadership approach, emphasizing advocacy, self-care, and sustainable service. By setting clear boundaries, seeking support when needed, and engaging in regular self-reflection, she continues to make a lasting impact on students with disabilities and educational communities.
Beyond education and business, KaShauna is an active leader in community service through her affiliations with Iota Phi Lambda Sorority, Inc. where she serves locally as Chapter Journalist. She previously held key leadership roles, including Director of Youth Programming on the Board of Directors for the Lola Mercedes Parker Foundation and awards such as Eastern Region Soror of the Year (2017-2019). As a National and Regional Award-Winning Chapter President of Gamma Zeta Chapter in Newport News, VA, she played a pivotal role in advancing the organization’s mission.
KaShauna is also an active member of Top Ladies of Distinction, Inc., Stafford County Chapter, serving as the Immediate Past Top Teens Advisor and Editor of the Crown/Newsletter on the Area II Executive Committee.
While her professional and community accomplishments are extensive, KaShauna’s most cherished roles are those of mother to her two sons, Josiah and Justus. Josiah is a dedicated scholar-athlete and football player, while Justus, who is neurodivergent and diagnosed with Autism, continues to amaze with his unique talents and vibrant personality.
KaShauna remains committed to excellence in education, business, and service, working tirelessly to create meaningful opportunities that empower individuals and organizations to reach their highest potential. In her spare time, she loves to spend time with family and friends, travel and all fashionable things.
