Medical Coding Prep Course Syllabus- Summer Semester 2025

This is an asynchronous (online) course.

This course is divided into modules specific to healthcare body systems (i.e. digestive, musculoskeletal), medical terminology and the components of medical coding to ensure students have full understanding before proceeding to the next module.

There is a module specific to the Business of Healthcare, Medical Terminology (Beginners), ICD-10-CM (Diagnosis) Coding, Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) and HCPCS coding.

The structure of the course is as follows: Body System Coding Overview, Coding Application, Coding Assignment, Coding Quiz

What Will I Learn?

The student will gain a fundamental understanding of Medical Coding

The student will receive practical and hands-on training in preparation to sit for the Certified Professional Coder (C.P.C) examination administered by the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC)

The Coders Cafe is an online library or space to focus on your studies or study group sessions. You will be able to track your productivity and time management with the focus tool. Listen to some relaxing music to help you focus.

Course Requirements:

Required: High School Diploma or GED

Recommend: Medical Terminology, associate’s degree
Certificate (if required):

All students will receive a certificate of successful completion. The total hours spent completing the course will count towards the student’s training/work when applying to the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC) for their internship when they apply and successfully pass the AAPC Coding Certification examination.
Max Number of Students for the Course:

The maximum of (50) students are allowed for the summer semester.
