COURSE OVERVIEW

In this foundational course, Professor Bernier breaks down complex legal concepts into accessible, practical knowledge that empowers you to make informed decisions about your relationships whether they be at school, with friends, employers etc. Gain the legal literacy you need to protect yourself and your loved ones.

WHY THIS COURSE MATTERS TO OUR COMMUNITY Black Americans and people of color often navigate legal systems that weren't designed with our needs in mind. Professor Bernier brings her extensive expertise and cultural understanding to address the specific legal challenges and considerations relevant to our community: -Providing college students with the tools to successfully and legally handle common college situations - Cultural considerations in relationship agreements. - How to think through legal consequences of daily activities. - Learn how to read a law case This course will be held via Google Meets and Google Classroom. The link will be provided prior May 27th, which is the first day of class. The course will be held twice weekly. ABOUT PROFESSOR BARBARA BERNIER Professor Bernier brings unparalleled expertise to Hillmantok University. With over twenty years of experience in legal education, she has established multiple law school programs and championed issues concerning gender and human rights. Her credentials include: - J.D. from Howard University School of Law - LL.M. from Temple University - Certificate from the International Institute of Human Rights (Strasbourg, France) - Diploma from the University of Champagne-Ardenne (Reims, France) - Visiting Scholar at Harvard University School of Divinity - Bar memberships including the Supreme Court of the United States As a scholar who has taught Constitutional Law, Comparative International Law, and Property Law, Professor Bernier brings a comprehensive understanding of how various legal frameworks impact our daily lives and relationships.
