About Course

This course explores how creative writing can be a tool for personal wellness. Through storytelling, journaling, poetry, and memory work, students will learn to use writing as a tool for emotional regulation, healing, and deeper self-understanding. The course incorporates mindfulness, prompts, peer sharing, and reflection practices.

What Will You Learn?

  • Students will learn techniques for using writing to heal old wounds and move through new challenges
  • Students will practice mindfulness and other strategies to support emotional regulation
  • Students will develop a plan to use writing to support their wellness journey and gain a deeper understanding of self
  • Students will build relationship with others and deepen their relationship with themselves through vulnerability and authenticity

Week 1: Writing to Heal- Intro to writing for emotional release

Week 2: The Stories We Tell Ourselves- on Memory & Self Awareness

Final Portfolio (Due Week 4)
"The Wellness Writer’s Chapbook" Students will submit: 3 revised creative pieces (poetry, essay, hybrid, etc) A 1-page wellness writing plan (how you will continue the practice) 250-word artist’s statement on writing + healing
