About Course

AFAM-F202 introduces students to the rich cultural diversity and complexity of the African continent. Through the lens of cultural studies, this course explores how identity, tradition, language, music, fashion, storytelling, and resistance shape everyday life across Africa and its global diaspora. Students will challenge stereotypes, unpack myths, and examine how African cultural expression continues to influence and inspire the world. Whether through dance, dress, or dialogue, this course invites you to engage critically and creatively with African culture—past and present.

What Will You Learn?

  • By the end of the course, students will be able to:
  • • Understand what culture is and how it influences identity, behavior, and worldview.
  • • Recognize the immense diversity of African cultures across geography, language, religion, and tradition.
  • • Know common myths and stereotypes about Africa through factual and cultural exploration.

Introduction to Cultural Studies – African Culture
Welcome to AFAM-F202: African/Cultural Studies! Our course officially begins on Monday, May 26, 2025. Oral Tradition and Story Telling
